Art As Life

Read about my work featured at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in January 2012

I am inspired by the color, light and texture of nature, and love to paint this in an interpretive manner in my paintings. Whether it be deep in the woods, on the crest of a hillside, or at the edge of a pond, I am happiest most when paint hits the canvas and I can evoke a memory of the natural environment.

There rarely is a time that I am not either dreaming of color, or looking at something with an artist and designer’s eye. Graduating from art school with a double major in graphic design and fine art, I found that one field inspired the other. Before entering college I was already showing my work in juried shows throughout New York and New England, and quickly started making a living through my art. My fine art sales helped fund my college tuition, even though my major was in a more commercial field, graphic design.

Prior to moving to California in 1975, I was accepted into the highly acclaimed Connecticut Society of Women Painters, and had earned over 15 awards in juried shows throughout New York and New England.

Twenty-five years later, after running a successful graphic design firm and raising a family, I started painting seriously again. I truly believe it is because of the disciplines of graphic design, photography and illustration combined with fine art is what brings the breadth to my work that is unique. My knowledge of color, design and light translates in a way to my canvases that has history. History of skills learned, and history of my unique upbringing as a child.

In 2008 I received an award of merit from the California State Fair, and continue to sell my work coast to coast, focusing on large format contemporary landscapes and abstracts.
